abstract = {AbstractA series of four donor–acceptor–donor derivatives bearing 4H‐pyranylidene and 4‐methylcyclohexan‐1‐one units as donor and acceptor groups respectively is designed, synthesized, and photophysically characterized. Both experimental and theoretical studies reveal good two‐photon absorption (2PA) properties for these systems. Decoration of the exocyclic position of the 4H‐pyranylidene moiety with a thiophene ring results in high 2PA cross‐section values (σ2PA) ≈700 nm, and remarkably, in the region between 900 and 1000 nm. Furthermore, all chromophores are evaluated as photoinitiators (PIs) for two‐photon‐laser printing at 780 nm, showing superior performance compared to the commonly used commercially available PI, phenylbis(2,4,6‐trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide. Among the studied PIs, the ones equipped with a thiophene unit at the exocyclic position of the 4H‐pyranylidene moiety exhibit the highest efficiency, enabling fast printing using low laser powers with even lower concentrations of PI. Overall, this study shows the great potential of this new class of PIs for application in the field of 3D nanoprinting.},

In addition, DFT and TD-DFT calculations have been performed to gain more insights into the structural, energetic and photophysical properties of the E/Z isomers. Our results reveal that E/Z configurational isomerization upon irradiation is highly dependent on the stabilization of the E or Z isomers due to the formation of intramolecular H bonds and the electronic/steric effects intrinsically related to their structures. In addition, Raman spectroscopy is also used to confirm the molecular structural changes after the formation of hydrogen bonds in the isomers.},

abstract = {AbstractA series of dithienylethene (DTE) photoswitches with aza‐heteroaromatic cationic moieties is synthesized. The switches are characterized regarding their photochemical and photophysical properties in acetonitrile and in water. The efficiency of the switching and the photostationary state composition depend on the degree ofπ‐conjugation of the heteroaromatic systems. Thus, DTEs with acridinium‐derived moieties have very low quantum yields for the ring‐closing process, which is in contrast to switches with pyridinium and quinolinium moieties. All switches emit fluorescence in their open forms. The involved electronic transitions are traced back to an integrative picture including the DTE core and the cationic arms. The emission can be fine‐tuned by theπ‐conjugation of the heteroaromatic cations, reaching the red spectral region for DTEs with acridinium moieties. On ring‐closing of the DTEs the fluorescence is not observable anymore. Theoretical calculations point to rather low‐lying energy levels of the highly conjugated ring‐closed DTEs, which would originate near‐infrared emission (> 1200 nm). The latter is predicted to be very weak due to the concurrent non‐radiative deactivation, according to the energy‐gap law. In essence, an ON–OFF fluorescence switching as the result of the electrocyclic ring‐closing reaction is observed.},

abstract = {Nervous necrosis virus, NNV, is a neurotropic virus that causes viral nervous necrosis disease in a wide range of fish species, including European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). NNV has a bisegmented (+) ssRNA genome consisting of RNA1, which encodes the RNA polymerase, and RNA2, encoding the capsid protein. The most prevalent NNV species in sea bass is red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV), causing high mortality in larvae and juveniles. Reverse genetics studies have associated amino acid 270 of the RGNNV capsid protein with RGNNV virulence in sea bass. NNV infection generates quasispecies and reassortants able to adapt to various selective pressures, such as host immune response or switching between host species. To better understand the variability of RGNNV populations and their association with RGNNV virulence, sea bass specimens were infected with two RGNNV recombinant viruses, a wild-type, rDl956, highly virulent to sea bass, and a single-mutant virus, Mut270Dl965, less virulent to this host. Both viral genome segments were quantified in brain by RT-qPCR, and genetic variability of whole-genome quasispecies was studied by Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). Copies of RNA1 and RNA2 in brains of fish infected with the low virulent virus were 1,000-fold lower than those in brains of fish infected with the virulent virus. In addition, differences between the two experimental groups in the Ts/Tv ratio, recombination frequency and genetic heterogeneity of the mutant spectra in the RNA2 segment were found. These results show that the entire quasispecies of a bisegmented RNA virus changes as a consequence of a single point mutation in the consensus sequence of one of its segments. Sea bream (Sparus aurata) is an asymptomatic carrier for RGNNV, thus rDl965 is considered a low-virulence isolate in this species. To assess whether the quasispecies characteristics of rDl965 were conserved in another host showing different susceptibility, juvenile sea bream were infected with rDl965 and analyzed as above described. Interestingly, both viral load and genetic variability of rDl965 in seabream were similar to those of Mut270Dl965 in sea bass. This result suggests that the genetic variability and evolution of RGNNV mutant spectra may be associated with its virulence.},

abstract = {AbstractA set of nine boronic‐acid‐derived salicylidenehydrazone (BASHY) complexes has been synthesized in good to very good chemical yields in a versatile three‐component reaction. In an extension to previous reports on this dye platform, the focus was put on the electronic modification of the “vertical” positions of the salicylidenehydrazone backbone. This enabled the observation of fluorescence quenching by photoinduced electron transfer (PeT), which can be reverted by the addition of acid in organic solvent (OFF‐ON fluorescence switching). The resulting emission is observed in the green‐to‐orange spectral region (maxima at 520–590 nm). In contrast, under physiological pH conditions in water, the PeT process is inherently decativated, thereby enabling the observation of fluorescence in the red‐to‐NIR region (maxima at 650–680 nm) with appreciable quantum yields and lifetimes. The latter characteristic supported the application of the dyes in fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) of live A549 cells.},

abstract = {We study the magnetic phase diagram of an ensemble of dipolar hard spheres (DHSs) with or without uniaxial anisotropy and frozen in position on a disordered structure by tempered Monte Carlo simulations. The crucial point is to consider an anisotropic structure, obtained from the liquid state of the DHS fluid, frozen in its polarized state at low temperature. The freezing inverse temperature determines the degree of anisotropy of the structure which is quantified through a structural nematic order parameter, . The case of the non zero uniaxial anisotropy is considered only in its infinitely strong strength limit where the system transforms in a dipolar Ising model (DIM). The important finding of this work is that both the DHS and the DIM with a frozen structure build in this way present a ferromagnetic phase at volume fractions below the threshold value where the corresponding isotropic DHS systems exhibit a spin glass phase at low temperature.},

abstract = {Color quantization (CQ) is one of the most common and important procedures to be performed on digital images. In this paper, a new approach to hierarchical color quantization is described, presenting a novel neural network architecture integrated by a convolutional autoencoder and a Growing Hierarchical Bregman Neural Gas (GHBNG). GHBNG is a CQ algorithm that allows the compression of an image by choosing a reduced set of the most representative colors to generate a high-quality reproduction of the original image. In the technique proposed here, an autoencoder is used to translate the image into a latent representation with higher per-pixel dimensionality but reduced resolution, and GHBNG is then used to quantize it. Experimental results confirm the performance of this technique and its suitability for tasks related to color quantization.},

abstract = {This paper presents a thermal study of a cavity receiver designed for a Fresnel-type linear solar collector (LFC). The study utilizes a two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model implemented in ANSYS Fluent. The thermal behavior of air inside the cavity for a Fresnel collector is extensively examined. The receiver consists of a trapezoidal cavity with a set of six parallel absorber tubes, through which a thermal fluid circulates. The cavity has aluminum reflectors on the inner walls and glass window closing the aperture facing the primary reflectors of the solar collector. The two-dimensional numerical model represents a cross-section of the receiver, and aims to provide numerical results that allow to provide algebraic correlations for predicting heat losses in the receiver from the wall temperature of each of the six individual absorber tubes that compose it. The developed model is transient, utilizing the k-ε turbulent model. In addition, the study is completed with an analysis of the behavior of the air surrounding and inside the cavity, to evaluate its thermal performance. For this purpose, the velocity and temperature contours obtained with the two-dimensional model are discussed. Correlations are obtained to know the heat flux between the tubes and the heat loss through the window for any combination of temperatures for each pair of tubes, which has not been yet studied in the literature. The study reveals that radiative losses contribute to 81% of the total heat losses, with the outer tubes temperature being the main responsible for these losses. Furthermore, a dimensionless analysis examines the relationship between the Nusselt and Rayleigh numbers in comparison to reference problems based on canonical geometries dominated by buoyancy-driven flows. The performance is found to be similar to that of a downward hot flat plate.},

To do so, several newly problem-specific operators have been designed so as to engineer hybrid multi-objective evolutionary metaheuristics (MOEAs) that bring expert knowledge of the domain to the search of the algorithms. These hybrid approaches have been able to improve upon canonical versions of the algorithms, clearly showing the contributions of our approach. Furthermore, this paper tests the hypothesis that the hybridization using several of those problem-specific operators simultaneously can enhance the search of MOEAs that are endowed only with a single one.},

abstract = {The phyllosphere is a wide and complex ecosystem that provides a key support for microbial diversity. Fungal communities inhabiting the leaf are functionally variable and play important roles on plant performance. Factors conditioning the arrival and colonization of fungal communities will determine the phyllosphere fungal composition. Plant identity, leaf functional traits and host plant phylogeny have been shown to be regulators of the microbial colonization of the leaves, and can be considered as biotic filters determining the assembly of phyllosphere fungal communities. By high-throughput sequencing we analysed the phyllosphere fungal communities from 38 Mediterranean woody plant species in two forests of south-eastern Iberian Peninsula. We analysed the effect of plant species and site on fungal community composition. We also tested the effect of leaf functional traits and plant phylogeny on plant species differences in their fungal communities, and on the structure of the plant–fungus interaction network. Plant species account for a larger proportion than site in the variability of the composition of phyllosphere fungal communities. Leaf traits and host phylogeny influence the arrival and colonization of phyllosphere fungal communities across plant species. Plants with pubescent leaves and phylogenetically closer harbour more similar communities of decomposers, pathogens and epiphytes. Leaf habit (i.e. evergreen versus deciduous) also influences the community composition of decomposer and epiphytic fungi. Leaf carbon, leaf water content and leaf mass per area affect differentially each functional guild. Plant–fungus interaction networks present a modular structure in which plants belonging to the same module share more fungal species and are phylogenetically closer. We provide evidence that even though phyllosphere fungal communities are complex ecosystems, fungi with contrasting relationships with the plant (decomposers, epiphytes and pathogens) respond similarly to a common subset of leaf traits that impose physical limitations to the assembly of phyllosphere fungal communities.},
